Powerdaylight introduces coupling slots for quicker and easier installation

Powerdaylight straight extension tubes now feature coupling slots, making them quicker to assemble, stronger at the joint and easier to align. The new design is available now for Ø25 cm and Ø35 cm tubes, with Ø53 cm and Ø78 cm versions to follow.

Developed by Techcomlight, the manufacturer behind Powerdaylight, the new coupling slots are a practical improvement designed to make installation easier. They provide a positive stop when joining extension tubes, helping installers achieve an even overlap and a straight connection.

A small detail with a practical purpose

Extension tubes carry daylight between the external and internal fittings of a Powerdaylight system. When several tubes are needed, each joint must be correctly aligned and assembled.

The new coupling slots divide the tube end into four coupling tabs. During assembly, two tabs slide inside the adjoining tube and two slide outside it. The tubes are then pushed together until the edge of the adjoining tube reaches the ends of the slots.

This creates a fixed overlap of 19 mm, helping to keep the joint even around the circumference.

Quicker assembly

The coupling slots provide a clear stopping point as the tubes slide together. This makes it easier to achieve the correct overlap without having to measure the insertion depth separately around the joint.

A stronger connection

The alternating tabs fit inside and outside the adjoining tube, creating a stronger connection between the two sections.

Coupling slots are needed at only one of the two tube ends being joined. If both ends have slots, these should be offset so that they do not line up.

Straight alignment

An uneven overlap can leave adjoining tubes sitting at an angle. The positive stop provided by the coupling slots helps installers maintain an even overlap and align the tubes straight.

For this jointing method, both tubes must be assembled using the same diameter setting.

Flexible installation options

The coupling slots are used at joints without a sealing strip. Other jointing methods remain available where a sealing strip is required or a greater overlap is preferred.

For joints assembled with a sealing strip, or by sliding the tubes directly together without using the coupling slots, a minimum overlap of 50 mm (5 cm) is required. A greater overlap is permitted.

Extension tube screws are also available separately for additional mechanical fixing at suitable joints without a sealing strip. Joints fitted with a sealing strip must remain flexible and must not be screwed together or taped.

Installers should read the full installation instructions before starting and select the appropriate method for each joint.

Available now for Ø25 cm and Ø35 cm

The new coupling slots are now available on Powerdaylight straight extension tubes for Ø25 cm and Ø35 cm systems, in both 30 cm and 61 cm lengths. The Ø53 cm and Ø78 cm versions will follow.
